Geek Of The Week 01.2012: Hiyao Miyasaki
Why?
The co-founder of Studio Ghibli and creator of some of the most beloved movies in the world, his work often features fantastical flying machines and environmentally-aware pacifist themes. Also, they are fabulous. Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, Nausicaa of the Valley of The Wind, Spirited Away, and Howl’s Moving Castle are only a few of his animated films. His studio uses primarily water colors and traditional animation techniques, but they have integrated computer-generated imagery and digital paint into their movies, starting with 1997′s Princess Mononoke. In classic nerd form, he shies away from interviews.
